Takeoff Technologies, a Massachusetts-based tech company, is the creator of the world’s first automated micro-fulfillment center (MFCs) that transforms the way people access groceries. Our solution provides retailers with the most cost-efficient way to fulfill their online grocery orders, using automated, hyperlocal micro-fulfillment centers.

The Role:

As a Field Automation Technician, you will report to the Director of Maintenance and Field Services and be expected to provide industrial electrical/mechanical/automation expertise, working on highly automated storage and retrieval systems, conveyor systems and picking stations for our Montevideo, Uruguay Micro-fulfillment center (MFC). Our main focus is working towards maximizing equipment utilization and efficiency through defined preventative maintenance practices.

To be successful in this position you must have knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatics, and automated equipment and robotic systems. Our systems utilize 480vac, 240vac, 120vac, and 48vdc, 24vdc, VFDs, and PLCs (Siemens). Utilizing both paper and digital electrical schematics as well as CMMS software to track all breakdowns, work performed and spare parts usage and inventory. Troubleshooting knowledge is a must.

The successful candidate will be responsible for daily upkeep and maintenance of the entire system, as well as emergency breakdown response as needed. Inventorying and tracking spareparts usage and also ordering spare parts for stock replenishment. This job requires us to be in front of customers at their facility and as such professionalism is expected at all times.

This is exciting because you will have the chance to:

  • Rectify electro-mechanical faults and specialist technical assistance as a support technician
  • Respond to emergency calls on Customer sites
  • Be safety conscious in all activities, demonstrate a track record of owning problems and promote successful completion of the tasks
  • Provide first-class response to Customer, ensuring as reasonably and practical as possible a first-time right policy
  • Create strong effective working relationships with Customer and TakeOFF’s Account Managers and Operations team to achieve performance in terms of expected output, speed of response, quality of repair and standards of workmanship
  • Training of customer’s maintenance team as required
  • Maintain quality of service by ensuring good quality communications with customers
  • Ensure that reports are well written and legible in each CMMS entry
  • Execution of site quality procedures, safety procedures, and any statutory procedures
  • Participate in regular meetings with Takeoff management / onsite customer management to discuss activities and progress.
  • Ensure that all spare parts usage issues are logged appropriately and spare parts are ordered to keep a full inventory.
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of the tooling and equipment supplied
  • Ensure that all time sheets and documents are accurate
  • Ability to work against a timeframe to complete reactive repairs
  • Interact with on-site management keeping them informed of repair and maintenance progression and addressing their concerns in a professional manner
  • Ability to appreciate health & safety considerations with regard to given tasks and to carry out risk assessments
  • Ability to operate hand tools and be able to assemble parts onto equipment
  • Attention to detail and exceptional follow-up skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing role requirements
  • Appreciation of cultural diversity is a must!

Some of the experience you will bring to the table:

  • Must have the ability to proficiently speak, write and read English
  • Degree in Electrical, Automation or Mechanical Preferred
  • 3 - 8 years of experience as Maintenance Repairman, Maintenance Electrician, Machine Repairman, or Industrial Maintenance Engineering
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to provide talent that contributes a unique interpretation or analysis of our systems to our customers.
  • Process-oriented mentality
  • Theoretical and operational experience in the repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of PLC-based machinery, highly automated and robotic equipment and control systems
  • Hands-on, team oriented and committed to improvement processes
  • Experience in reducing costs through processes and efficiencies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Basic technical understanding
  • Weekends and overtime as required by work
  • Occasional travel required

  • Professional office etiquette is required at all times
  • Physical requirements may include:
  • Sitting, squatting, walking, reaching out to arm’s length, reaching over-head, lifting between 50-100 pounds, and reading
