About the role:

The opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced Ship’s Officer / Draft Surveyor to join this global organisation which respects diverse perspectives, experiences and traditions as essential and values each employee's contribution toward achieving our business objectives. The candidate will be responsible for conducting Marine Operations and Inspections services based residentially in the remote Pilbara coastal towns of Port Hedland, Karratha, Dampier area and Fremantle in Western Australia.

The position is permanent, full-time and will involve:

· Maintaining high standards of reporting and monitoring regarding condition of ships and cargo

· Organising ship’s shifting requirements, co-ordinate berthing operations

· Delivering expert advice regarding ship’s stability, ship stress, trimming etc

· Load/Discharge inspections of Marine Vessels

· Conducting inspections/ draft surveys when required on all types of vessel's both on shore and offshore including quantity surveys and sampling

· Ensuring all measuring equipment and equipment used for analysis is accurately maintained and calibrated at the prescribed intervals

· Ensuring that a Job Safety Analysis is completed for all new jobs and that Occupational Health & Safety guidelines are adhered to at all times

· Attending to matters pertaining to ship’s maintenance and ship’s repairs

· As a Ship’s Officer, provide guidance to ship’s junior officers / crew and other service providers

· Review, compile and re-adjust ship’s arrival times (ETAs) and liaise with service providers

· Ensuring that all jobs are conducted in accordance with Intertek's Quality Assurance System

· Preparation of reports and Invoices

· Liaison with clients, Shipping Agents & vessel staff

· General Office functions

Selection Criteria:

The position will require the successful candidate to pass a pre-employment medical as well as obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card as a condition of employment. Based residentially in Port Hedland, Karratha, Dampier area and Fremantle (WA), the position involves fieldwork, irregular out of hours and weekend work.

The positions would ideally suit applicants that:

· Must be able to climb ships and shore tank ladders and stairs (working at heights of approx 25 mtrs)

· Have in-depth knowledge of ship’s operation and “vessel in port” requirements

· Detailed knowledge about Australian maritime safety regulations

· Excellent communications skills

· Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment

· Excellent organisational skills and self motivation

· Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision

· Sensitivity to deal with confidential information

· A current Australian Driving License and transportation

· Evidence of their right to work in Australia

· Can physically be able to sample, measure, and take the temperature of stowage tanks (Ship & shore tanks) using different methods as per company’s policy.

· Have mineral vessel inspection and survey experience

· Have the ability to perform manual handling, stand for long periods and regularly lift or carry up to 20 kgs of samples, gear or equipment safely.

· Must be able to work outdoors during adverse weather conditions (rain, heat, cold)

· Have sufficiently high tolerance for job presence and a flexible schedule as this position is required to regularly work long flexible hours and will include evening shifts, night shifts, weekends and Public holidays based on requirements

· Must be able to calculate and report quantities transferred from stowage tanks

· A solid understanding of MS Office suite – particularly excel and word – as well as company nominated calculation programs (training provided)

The successful candidate will have a AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or overseas equivalent) or at least three years of relevant experience including 2 years experience in a similar position.
